Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police has initiated a comprehensive operation named Prahaar to combat illegal drug activities across the state, aiming to eradicate narcotics and promote a drug-free environment. This initiative, launched following government orders, involves a collaborative effort among all districts.
From September 1 to 7, the operation resulted in the registration of 110 cases and the arrest of 157 individuals involved in drug-related crimes. Authorities confiscated a staggering 4,808 kg of ganja across 72 cases, leading to 93 arrests. In a significant crackdown on synthetic drugs, 2,374 grams of brown sugar were seized in 27 incidents, resulting in 45 arrests.
Moreover, police seized 3,052 bottles of cough syrup, frequently misused as narcotics, and apprehended 19 individuals for illegal possession and transportation. Legal proceedings under Section 129 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have commenced against 70 suspects, and three establishments linked to the illicit drug trade have been shut down.
A senior police official stated, “Operation Prahaar represents our unwavering commitment to dismantling the illegal drug distribution networks in Odisha. We are dedicated to safeguarding our youth and community from the detrimental impacts of narcotics.” This operation highlights the state's strict stance against drug abuse and trafficking.
The Odisha Police encourages the public to report any drug-related activities and assures that stringent actions will persist against offenders in the upcoming weeks.
